Yoruba Elders Demand Stoppage Of Pensions For Former Governors

Senior elders of the Yoruba council of elders have asked south west states’ governors to immediately stop the payment of pensions and other entitlements to former governors and deputy governors

They urged the governors of Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo states to follow the footsteps of Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu of Lagos State, who had sent a bill to the state house of assembly to stop the payment

The elders, after a meeting in Ibadan, explain that the economies of the south west’s six states governments are not buoyant enough to accommodate the former governors’ pensions bills They say that the decision if taken, will reduce the cost of governance in the region and will enable it to face the challenges facing its economies, and create new jobs for the unemployed youths
