Woman in police net for faking her kidnap in Abeokuta

A 20-year-old woman, Toheebat Adebayo, is now in the net of the Ogun State Police Command, for allegedly faking her abduction in Abeokuta.

Adebayo, while confessing under the police interrogation, said she and her boyfriend, Afolabi Ogunremi, decided to fake her abduction, in order, to raise money for her forthcoming birthday.

Spokesman of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the command on September 27, received a report that Adebayo left for Lafenwa market in Abeokuta, but failed to return home.

Oyeyemi explained that the parents of the suspect later received a phone call from a man, who informed them of the abduction of their daughter, demanding N200,000 as ransom.

Upon the receiving the report of Adebayo’s alleged kidnap, he said the police immediately swung into action, which led them to an abandoned house in the Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where she was kept.

The discovery, according to the police spokesman, led to the arrest of the boyfriend of the accused, who happened to be the security guard in her parent’s house.

Oyeyemi said the state’s police commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the transfer of the case to anti-kidnapping and cultists unit of criminal investigation and intelligence department, for further investigation.
