A 42 year old woman, Temitope Akinola, is now in police net in Sagamu, Ogun State, for allegedly poisoning her two year old granddaughter to death.
The child was poisoned with an insecticide brand called sniper.
The woman was arrested by detectives from the Sagamu Police Division after report of the death of the child of her daughter.
Temitope was said to be alone with the child, while the mother of the child, went to take a bath
The mother of the child returned later from bathroom, only to meet the lifeless body of her child.
Spokesman of the State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement says the suspect during interrogation, admitted killing the child, because she did not approve her daughter marrying the father of the child.
The suspect told police interrogators that she had wanted to abort the pregnancy of her daughter for the father of the child, but her pastor warned her against the act.
Oyeyemi says the corpse of the child had been deposited at the morgue of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.
Also, the suspect had been transferred to the state homicide section of the state criminal, investigations and intelligence department of the police command.
