An Abeokuta magistrate court has sentenced a 26 year old woman to five years jail term for stealing a five months old baby in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.

The convict, Falilat Olatunji who pleaded guilty to the sole count charge proffered against her, committed the offence last week thursday’s afternoon at mile two, along Ayetoro road in Abeokuta.

The magistrate, Oluwaseun Ayanbolu in his judgement found the convict guilty for her callousness in stealing the baby.

He sentenced her to five years imprisonment with intensive hard labour without remission.

The prosecutor, Mathew Famuyiwa had told the court that the convict kidnapped the child in absence of the child’s mother in her room to appear as a nursing mother at Oke Ilewo area in the state capital.

The convict who is a single mother of a 13 year old child, in her confessional statement says she kidnapped the five month old child to show off to her fiancee’s relatives that she has a baby for their son.

According to her, she had earlier lied to her fiancee that she was pregnant for him and in order not to lose him, she stole the child to deceive him and his relatives.

The convict also explains that she escaped with the stolen child through the backyard of the house and had been feeding the child with pap and milk.
