Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has called for a drastic reduction in the powers of the Federal Government and the resources at its disposal to fast-track national development.
The governor who made the call while addressing participants at the executive intelligence management course at the institute of security studies in Abuja, said the federal government was too overbearing, and using its enormous powers to slow down the pace of development.
Wike said at the moment, the Federal Government is in conflict with the state governments on several development issues, such as the resource control, revenue sharing, and the excess crude account.
The governor also said the state government is having issues with the federal government on the appointments into federal agencies and what he calls the arbitrary location and withdrawal of federal projects.
