West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the results of the April/May West African Senior Secondary Schools Certification Examination for school candidates.
Only 49.8 per cent of the one million, 572 thousand and 396 candidates from 17,886 secondary schools, who wrote the examination, obtained five credits in five subjects, including english language and mathematics.
Head of the council’s national office in Nigeria, Olu Adenipekun, announcing the results at a news conference in Lagos, says the percentage is lower than 59.22 % recorded in 2017 and 52.97% in 2016.
According to him, a total of 854,426 of the candidates got the required credits in five subjects, including mathematics and english language.
The remaining one million, 213 thousand and 244 candidates also got credits in five subjects without english language or mathematics.
