Vice chancellor of Osun State University, Osogbo, has alerted that Nigerian universities are training students for jobs that have become obsolete.
In contrast, Professor Labode Popoola said world class universities are training their students for future jobs.
The vice chancellor speaking while delivering the maiden post graduate lecture of Kaduna State University in Kaduna, explained that the prevailing situation in Nigerian universities does not prepare them to contribute to national development.
He blamed this on poor funding, the collapse of academic culture, corruption and blurred vision of the universities in the country.
The absence of academic culture, according to the vice chancellor, has crippled the quest for creativity and innovation required for sustainable development.
