Vandals steal electric cables of Ogun IPP, plunge govt secretariat into darkness

Electricity Distribution

Some thieves have stolen the cables of the new independent power plant (IPP) at Onijanjagan, near Abeokuta.

The power plant is a joint venture between Ogun State government and Lisabi Power.

The stealing of the cable has disrupted electricity supply to the Governor Office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, in the past weeks, forcing government offices in the complex to resort to the standby electricity generators.

Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa, who made this known to newsmen, said some of the cables were also damaged due to bush burning by residents of the area.

According to him, the state government has purchased new cables to normalise the power supply.
