Utomi asks varsities to produce deep thinkers to bail out Nigeria

A professor of Political Economics, Pat Utomi,  has challenged Nigeria’s higher institutions of learning, especially private universities, to raise a new generation of thoughtful, bright and innovative leaders to transform the country’s battered economy.

He made the call while delivering a lecture titled ‘private universities: the credible path to true intellectual freedom, innovation and national development’, at Chrisland University, Ajebo, in Abeokuta.

Utomi who criticized the ruling class for not thinking out of the box to rescue the economy and nation, said the greatest tragedy that has befallen Nigeria, is the prevention of its brightest minds who were beneficiaries of quality education in the Post-Colonial Era, from directly running the affairs of the country.

He called on government and institutions, to pay attention to empowering new leaders of thought who can engage in critical thinking and proffer lasting solutions to national problems, to enable the country to stand tall among the committee of developed nations.
