UNDP trains Moslem scholars on Islam extremism

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) says it has trained 200 Moslem Clerics from the Northern Nigeria, on how to change the perception of Islam and fight Islam extremism.

UNDP Programme’s officer, David Omogbede, says 80 of the clerics are drawn from Borno State, 60 from Yobe and 60 from Adamawa State.

The beneficiaries of the training programme included teachers, community leaders and Almajiri Teachers.

He explains the clerics were trained on how to combat the ideology of boko haram with a manual compiled by Islamic Scholars from Dawah Centre.
