The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), has alerted of a looming food shortage in Nigeria.
The organization blamed the impending food shortage on the army worms pests invasion on maize and other crops being planted by farmers in the country.
The Organization’s National Communication Officer, David Karl, who raised the alarm in a statement, said the army worm pests have spread to other crops such as sorghum, millet, cow pea and vegetables.
To prevent massive loss by farmers during the 2018 cropping season, Karl says, it has embarked on supplying early maturing maize seed variety, herbicides, fertilizer, knapsack sprayer and goldmax crop solution to farmers.
The army worm was first found in Nigeria for the first time in 2016.
