Two persons have died in Enugu State, following the collapse of a borrow pit.
The incident occurred on Saturday at Garki in Ugwuoba community in the Orji River local government area.
Spokesman of the state police command, Ebere Amaraizu, said the two men were excavating sand at a site in the community when they were buried by the sand.
“Two persons who were said to be excavating sand at a site in Gariki in Ugwuoba community got buried as the sand they were excavating slides and allegedly covered them.
“The identity of the victims has yet to be unmasked, but sources revealed that they hailed from Nibo in Awka South local Government Area of Anambra State, but were at the site to excavate sand into lorries,’’ he said.
Amaraizu explained that the bodies of the two persons have been recovered and deposited at the General Hospital in Orji river for investigations.
