President Donald Trump of United States of America (USA) has ordered construction of a wall along the country’s southern border with Mexico to thwart illegal migration.
Trump signed the immigration executive orders as he visited the Department of Homeland Security, the federal agency charged with protecting the U.S. Border.
“A nation without borders is not a nation. Starting today, the US gets back control of its borders,” he said.
“This will help dismantle cartels, keeping illegal weapons and cash from flowing out of American and into Mexico.”
Trump told ABC News that the construction of the wall would start within months, and insists that Mexico would pay for it.
We’ll be reimbursed at a later date from whatever transaction we make from Mexico,” Trump said.
“I’m just telling you there will be a payment. It will be in a form, perhaps a complicated form. What I’m doing is good for the United States. It’s also going to be good for Mexico. We want to have a very stable, very solid Mexico.”
Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto reacted, again clearly stating that his country will not be picking up the cost.
Pena Nieto reiterated his country’s stance in a message to the Mexican people Wednesday, saying he regrets and disapproves of the decision to build the wall.
