A top Boko Haram commander declared wanted by the military has been arrested in Ondo State.
The terrorist, identified as Idris Babawo, was arrested on Sunday by the Police on Sunday afternoon at an undisclosed venue.
The Director of Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka said “The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police on Sept. 24 at about 2: 00 p.m., arrested a wanted Boko Haram terrorist, Idris Ibrahim Babawo, believed to be number 156 on the wanted Boko Haram terrorists list.
“He was handed over to the 32 Brigade, 2 Division, Nigerian Army at about 2:00 p.m. on Sept. 25 by the Ondo State Police Command.”
Army spokesman, Brigadier General Sani Usman, in a statement, said he was one of the top commanders who had committed atrocities and placed on the wanted list.
According to him, Idris Ibrahim Babawo is identified as number 156 in the Boko Haram wanted list.
The terrorist, according to him, was immediately handed over by the police to the 32 Brigade of the Army Second Division.
The Army spokesman said preliminary investigations show that he escaped the battlefield in the North East region to escape justice.
