National leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has faulted the concept of supremacy of political parties over their members.
Tinubu warned that party supremacy that is not based on principle will breed dictatorship, as it tends to increase the powers of a group of people within the party that already have powers.
The former Lagos State governor made his view known on the issue in a paper delivered at the thirty fifth annual Aminu Kano Memorial Symposium in Kano.
Tinubu, represented by Governor Abiola Ajimobi, explained that party supremacy enable some party leaders to dictate to members, instead of serving the collective will of the party.
To prevent party supremacy from becoming a vehicle for imposing decisions, Tinubu says it must be based on democratic ideals and principles in order to promote internal democracy
