Thirteen Ogun young athletes receive call-up to national camp

Thirteen Ogun state male and female handball, volleyball and basketball teams has been invited to join the national camp, following their outstanding performance at the just concluded National Youth Games South West zonal elimination, in Ibadan.

Youth and sports commissioner, Afolabi Afuape, who made this known to newsmen in Abeokuta, said the male volleyball, basketball and handball had also qualified for the National Youth Game coming up between September 7 and 17, at University of Ilorin.

Afuape said he is very optimistic that in the nearest future, Ogun State volleyball, basketball and handball teams will rule the world at the rate at which they are progressing.

“I’m not surprised at the level of performance of Ogun state contingent in the competitions as the Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has earlier encouraged and motivated the athletes before their departure to Ibadan through my humble self.

“When the Permanent Secretary, Mr Joseph Fabi was telling me on phone the achievements of the athletes, I said I’m very optimistic that in the nearest future, Ogun state volleyball, basketball and handball teams will rule the world with the rate at which they are moving, just like Anthony Joshua is doing the state proud presently,” Afuape said.

The commissioner explained that four of the volleyball players including Akinlade Emmanuel, Abimbola Muyiwa, Bello Timileyin and Kehinde Oludare, were called to the national camp, while Ogun State Hockey goalkeeper, Ajayi Solomon and a player, Isla Iyanuoluwa also received a call up letter.

Others are female handball players including Ayandele Blessing, Akinlade Damilola and Ayodabo Ololade.
