The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar, has warned religious leaders to stop making utterances that are contributing to the growing insecurity in the country.
The sultan said some of the religious leaders are politicians wearing turbans or cassocks.
The traditional ruler, expressed his concern over the trend at the dialogue on democracy stability and national security, organized by the alumni association of national institute of security.
The sultan said that some of the religious leaders were paid to mobilize members of the congregation for political parties, adding that some of them are self-styled imams and pastors, lacking deep knowledge of Koran and bible.
He asked government to take a role in addressing the challenges posed by such religious leaders.
