*Tensions In Ayetoro, Following Smugglers, Customs’ Clash

There is tension in Ayetoro, the headquarters of Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, following a clash between smugglers and operatives of Nigeria Customs Service in the Town

The tension followed the killing of a youth allegedly felled  by stray bullets while the customs operatives were firing gunshots when they came under attacks by hoodlums

Deputy Comptroller of federal operations unit of zone ‘a’, Usman Yahaya told newsmen in Lagos that three customs officers were wounded during the clashes

Yahaya says that his men had intercepted six buses loaded with smuggled rice at Kilelomo, after credible intelligence, only to be attacked by hoodlums armed with charms and dangerous weapons, when seizing the rice

Troops along with customs operatives were deployed to the town who conducted a house-to-house search for suspected smugglers, leading to panic among residents

Hundreds of youth during the clash barricaded major roads leading into the town, while several of residents had ran away from their homes
