Tension In Ondo Over 23 Indigine’s Killed In Plateau

Tensions have gripped Ondo State over the killing of 25 travelers and injuring of 23 others by gunmen, while their vehicles were passing through Jos, the Plateau state capital

The 90 persons in five buses, which waylaid and attacked by the gunmen, were from Ikare axis of Ondo state, and were returning from Bauchi, after attending an event to mark the Islamic new year

Governor Rotimi Akerdolu of Ondo State in a statement has asked people in the state to be calm and not take law into their hands

The governor in a statement by his media aide, Richard Olatunde, says the attack was a case of mistaken identity, and a fall out from clashes between ethnic groups in the axis

Akeredolu says the identities of those killed in the attack will be made public soon

Meanwhile, Governor Simon Lalong of plateau state has imposed a 24 hour curfew on the Jos north local government area to contain the escalating security situation in the state capital

The 24 hour curfew announced by the governor began from 2 pm on Sunday until further notice

The 24 hour curfew was announced on Sunday morning after a group of rioters attacked worshippers in some churches at Faringada and Terminus axis of the city, destroying properties

Earlier on Saturday, the governor had imposed  after a dawn-to-dawn curfew on the Jos North, Jos South and Bassa, following the killing of 23 travellers passing through the city by gunmen on Saturday morning

The governor updating the figure of casualty from the Saturday attack on five buses, says 23 out of the 90 travellers died and 23 others injured in the attack

The inspector general of police, Usman Baba on Sunday ordered the deployment of police intervention team, as well as, investigators and covert operatives for on the spot assessment of the axis where the attack took place

Already, 20 persons had been arrested, and 33 of the missing travellers rescued
