Police have arrested a man with 114 bags of weeds suspected to be cannabis in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The suspect identified as Noah Olaore, was arrested last December 29, opposite the M.K.O Abiola International Stadium, Kuto.
Spokesman of Ogun State police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the arrest follows an intelligence received by men of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) that some hoodlums who specialized in smuggling of hard drug from Benin Republic into Ogun State, will pass through Kuto on that day.
Following the tip, Oyeyemi explained that a team of federal SARS operatives led by Inspector Adeyemi Akeem, positioned themselves in Kuto axis, and intercepted the suspect in a car outside the M.K.O Abiola stadium.
According to him, further investigation led the policemen to Igbo-Ora in Oyo state, where more bags of the Indian hemp were recovered.
The state’s police commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered a full scale investigation into the case with the view of arresting other members of the syndicate.
