Supreme Court rejects Presidency’s move to control federal land in Lagos state

President Muhammadu Buahri and Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state

The Supreme Court has rejected an application by the Presidency, seeking to take over the control and management of federal land in Lagos, from the Lagos state government.

The state government is challenging attempt by the Presidency on the general control and management of federal land within Lagos, including the re-issuing of certificate of occupancy, granting of consent or exercising ownership rights on the land.

The apex court in a lead judgement read by Justice Dattijo Mohammed, upheld the objection of Lagos state government to the Federal Government’s application.

Justice Mohammed said, the apex court lacks the powers to grant the request of the presidency, because it had already transferred its titles on the land to others.
