The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has faulted the labelling of a particular ethnic group for being responsible for rise in kidnapping and other violent crimes in the country.
The Traditional Ruler warned that blaming a tribe for the crimes could breed animosity among the various ethnic groups thereby endangering peace and unity.
The Sultan, who spoke on the issue in a message to the commissioning of a Central Mosque in Iwo, Osun State, said what should bother Nigerians now was how to expose those behind the criminals including kidnappers.
The Traditional Ruler was represented by the Executive Secretary of Muslims Ummah of South West Nigeria, Professor Dawoud Noib.
The Sultan said criminals, especially kidnappers, could not operate extensively in Yoruba land without logistic and moral support from some people in the region.
