Sultan Asks Muslims to Look Out For New Moon

The sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar, has asked the Muslim community in the country to look out for the Ramadan new moon today.

The sultan, who is the president of the supreme council on Islamic affairs, directs them to start looking out for it after sunset.

The Muslim leader issued the directive, in a statement signed by the council’s director of admnistration, Zubairu Usman-Igwu on Thursday night.

Sultan says the search for the new moon followed an advice of the national moon sighting committee.

If it is sighted by Muslims of impeccable character, the Ramadan would take off on Saturday otherwise, the sultan said the Ramadan would be declared on Sunday.
