Suicide bombers, gunmen kill 35 at Shia shrine in Iraq

Suicide bombers and gunmen have killed at least 35 people and injured 50 at a Shia shrine in Iraq, which the Islamic State (IS) said it carried out.

Worshippers were marking the Eid al-fitr festival, when the site came under mortar fire.

At least one bomber blew himself up outside the mausoleum of Sayid Mohammed bin Ali Al-hadi, in Baghdad, which was then stormed by gunmen,

Another bomber blew himself up among fleeing worshippers.

Meanwhile the death toll from Sunday’s suicide bombing in Baghdad has again been raised, from 250 to 292.
