Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, has been shut, following a violent protests over alleged blasphemous comment on Prophet Mohammed.
One student was feared dead, and two others injured in the riot on the university campus on Sunday.
The campus was already deserted by students, hours before the authorities announced the closure of the university.
The violent protests followed a post by a student on WhatsApp on Prophet Muhammed.
Some of the Muslim students staged a protests which degenerated into a riot.
The university spokesman, Hajiya Halima Bala, said security has been beefed up in the university.
Bala said that the first semester examination scheduled to commence today (Monday) has been suspended.
“As I talk to you now the university management meeting is ongoing. After the management meeting, there will be Senate meeting for the next line of action to be taken by the university,” Bala said.
