Student drown in Ogun River in Abeokuta

Five secondary school students drown in Kaduna River

A nineteen-year-old senior secondary school student of Ebenezer Grammar School, Abeokuta, has drowned, while swimming in Ogun River, in the Ogun state capital.

The bloated body of the boy was found floating on the river behind the Unity High School, Ago Ika, Abeokuta, on Wednesday morning.

The incident had occurred on Monday, shortly after the student returned from school to his family home at Ikija.

Rockcity FM gathers that he left home with the purpose of fetching water from a borehole near their home, from where he left his friends for the river.

Since Monday, members of his family had searched for him in vain, until they got a hint from some of his friends on Wednesday, that he told them on Monday that he was going to swim in the river.

They later headed for the bank of the river near Ago Ika, where some boat men told them that they had seen the body of a boy floating on the river, which unfortunately turned out to be that of the missing boy.

The late student had since been buried.
