Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Sunshine Stars has sacked their head coach Duke Udi.
The coach joined Sunshine Stars from Osun United last season after Austin Eguaveon resigned as the Akure Gunners coach.
Udi ensured Sunshine Stars finished 10th on the log with 54 points despite a poor first half performance in the 2016/2017 season.
He also led the team to finish among the best four teams in the AITEO Cup (Nigeria’s FA Cup) where they lost to eventual winners Akwa United in the semifinal.
According to a statement signed by Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye the Ondo State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Udi was sacked over “acts of insubordination and gross misconduct”.
Yusuf-Ogunleye said the ministry took the decision following letters received from the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA) on Udi’s unprofessional behaviour.
ODSFA Technical Director Henry Abiodun has been directed to take charge of the technical crew of the Akure based club.
Sunshine Stars are currently 17th on the NPFL table after 12 rounds of matches played. Please subscribe to our newsletter
