Strike Looms as Labour Demands Reversal of New Petrol Price

A fresh nationwide strike is looming over the recent hike in the pump price of petrol and electricity tariff

This followed the organized labour leaders’ walk out of the ongoing negotiations with federal government on the pricing of petrol and electricity on Sunday in Abuja

They promise to meet with their constituencies to discuss the next move

The meeting broke down when labour leaders insisted that the pump price of petrol should be reversed to n160 per litre it was when they last met in October

The labour leaders, accusing government of inciting members of the public against them, rejected the position of government that the talks should focus on the palliatives to cushion the hike in the petrol pump price

Labour minister, Chris Ngige, who led federal government’s team told labour leaders that that the presidency will begin the roll out of the palliatives as from today

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha also says that they are working on the agreement reached with labour that tariff be reduced on imported cars from 35 per cent to 10 per cent Labour leaders, however, say they never backed the deregulation of petroleum sector that will depend on imported petrol
