The federal government has initiated moves to establish a special court to handle the rising cases of rape and gender based violence in the country
Justice Minister Abubakar Malami said, the proposed court is expected to fast track the prosecution of cases of rape and gender based violence
Malami spoke on the proposed court at the inauguration of justice for children gender forum in Abuja
The minister said that, his office is already consulting with heads of federal courts on the establishment of the specialized courts
He said that today, a large number of children in Nigeria are survivors of violence, including sexual violence, but very few of those cases make it to the courtrooms.
According to him, the proposed court will ensure justice for child victims of sexual violence
