Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has called for the prosecution of people preaching religious intolerance to stop the growing religious violence in the country.
Those whose preaching leads to violent attacks, he suggested, should be made to apologize to Nigerians, and do penance, or killings in the name of religion will continue.
Soyinka who spoke on the issue at a public lecture at the University of Benin in Benin City, condemned the recent killing of eight students of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic in Zamfara state during mob attack on a student accused of blasphemy against Islam.
He blamed the emergence of Boko Haram sect on inciting religious teaching, and the failure of those preaching religious intolerance to understand that they belong to a society.
