Smuggler hits customs officers on patrol with vehicle

Two officers of the Nigeria customs service have been knocked down by a hit-and-run driver, suspected to be a smuggler while on patrol duty, in the Yewa axis of Ogun state.

The officers, who are members of the customs’ federal operating unit, deployed to the state to assist the command in curbing smuggling, were hit by the driver at Oja-odan.

The agency’s state comptroller, Michael Agbara, who made this known to newsmen at the command’s border post, Idiroko, said the officers are still on admission at a hospital and are in stable conditions.

Agbara explained that the incident occurred last Friday when the officers were embarking on the routine patrol along the border towns in the state.
