Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has given elders and traditional rulers in Agatu area to produce a member of militia who killed a soldier in the area.
“The action is condemnable, I apologise”, he said. “I have informed the elders and traditional rulers from the area to within 72 hours bring those behind the killing of the soldier.”
The soldier, Badamasi Amimu, is one of troops deployed to keep peace in the Agatu area was reportedly killed by some youths at Ole Gadakolu, near Egba, last Saturday.
Troops of 707 special forces later deployed to retrieve the body of the slain soldier recovered several arms and ammunition from the Agatu militia suspected to have killed the soldier.
The special force commander, Brigadier General Clement Apere, listed weapons recovered as two AK 47 rifles, two SLR rifles, two G-3 rifles, a fabricated pistol, three locally made pistols, two short barrel guns, 14 dane guns as well as police and military kits.
