Six suspected cultists are feared dead in renewed clashes by rival cult groups in Sagamu axis of Ogun State.
The clash which occurred on Tuesday, involved members of two major cultist groups, Aye and Eiye confraternities.
The clash disrupted commercial activities in the town, forcing shop owners to hurriedly lock up their shops and run for safety.
The State Police Commissioner, Bashir Makama, addressing newsmen at the State Police Headquarters, in Abeokuta, disputed the casualty figure, saying that only one person had so far been reported dead in the clashes
He promises that Police will brief the media on the incident as they unfold
Makama explains that a Police team led by a top ranking Officer had been deployed, to restore normalcy in the area.
According to the Police Commissioner, the body of the dead victim had been deposited in the morgue of a State Hospital in the town while some of the weapons used during the clashes had been recovered.
Meanwhile, a Police Inspector, Sunday Ogundapo, declared missing by the Police during the attack in Ifo, last Sunday, has reappeared.
The Police Commissioner says the Officer returned with severe injuries inflicted on him by hoodlums during the mayhem.
He adds that investigation is ongoing on the incident, while two other Police Officers and 25 suspects are in Police custody.
