The Senate has asked the Presidency to direct the police inspector general to enhance Police Security in the Ogun waterside axis to reduce the spate of kidnapping in the area.
The Senators want more Policemen deployed to effectively secure the area.
The issue came up, following a motion raised by Senator Lekan Mustapha during the senate plenary that 11 persons had been abducted between last august and October in the area.
The Nigerian Navy was also asked to consider establishing a naval base at Makun Omi on the Ogun State’s maritime border with Lagos State to also check kidnapping in the area.
Also, the Senate resolves to investigate occasional killings by operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, while chasing smugglers across communities in the Ogun West on Nigeria-Benin Border.
The Senate passed the resolution during its plenary, following a motion moved by senator Tolulope Odebiyi, representing ogun west in the Senate
Odebiyi, accusing the customs patrol of reckless and unruly behavious during such a chase, told the senate that they killed a student and injured several others last October 7.
The resolution to probe the incident was adopted after the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan ordered a voice vote on the motion.
