Senate To Review Public Procurement Act

The Senate is considering a comprehensive review of the 2017 Public Procurement Act.

Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, says the act, as it is, is slowing down the process of implementation of projects by Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

Lawan, speaking on the act while receiving the Secretary to the Government of Federation, Boss Mustapha, in his office, says it is also encouraging corruption in the implementation of projects.

The Senate President says the Senate will undertake a holistic review of loopholes in the Act, in order to sanitize the process of contract awards.

For instance, the Senate President explains that the Act as it is now, allow different costs, instead of a uniform cost for a similar brand of items by different Ministries, Department and Agencies.
