Senate president, Ahmad Lawan, has called for an urgent review of the privatization of the power sector undertaken between 2005 and 2013.
Lawan warns further delay in reviewing the privatization, will continue to undermine the capacity of industries in Nigeria to compete favorably with their counterparts in other countries.
The Senate President who regards the 2005-2013 power sector reforms as a fraud, says the senate is ready to amend the power sector reform bill, if the presidency displays the necessary political will to end the power crisis in the country.
He warned that Nigeria having signed the African continental free trade agreement, must declare an emergency in the power sector to enable its industries have a competitive edge in Africa.
Lawan expresses concern that industries in Nigeria today cannot compete with others in West Africa, while some of the local manufacturing plants are relocating to Ghana..
