The Senate has called for an urgent review of the formula for sharing revenue from the federation account by the three tiers of government.
The Senate which passed the resolution following a motion by Adamu Ailero, asked the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to review the current sharing favour to increase the take of the state and local governments.
Ailero told his colleagues that the life span of revenue sharing formula which should be five years had been in operation before 1999.
The senators said that the current formula which give more than 50 per cent of the revenue to the federal government is unconstitutional and insensitive to the economic realities.
They asked the Presidency to table the new revenue sharing proposal to be produced by RMAFC before the National Assembly for deliberation and passage into law.
