The senate and House of Representatives are considering amending the 1999 constitution to accommodate the proposed state and community police forces.
In the senate, the constitution review committee headed by Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has been mandated to present a draft bill on the proposal within two weeks.
The decision was taken by the upper chamber, after extensive debates on the state of security, particularly the recent killings in Plateau State, following a motion by Jonah Jang.
The senators also asked the presidency to rehabilitate the communities and people displaced by herdsmen attacks in Plateau State.
Deputy senate president during the debate, said that killings will continue nationwide, until the security architecture, particularly the police is restructured.
