Security forces raid militant hideouts in Ogun, Lagos creek

Security forces have begun attacks on the militants who have been terrorizing several communities close to waterways in Ogun and Lagos states.

The attacks launched by the Police, Navy and Airforce focused largely on the camps and hideouts of the militants in the creeks in the area, particularly Arepo, Ibafo, Igando and Ogijo which had come under frequent attacks from the militants in the axis.

The joint operation involved the bombing of the camps, and the movement of troops into the creeks to flush out the militants.

Defence Headquarters Spokesman, Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar, said the military operation aims at clearing the waterways of militants and other criminal elements in the areas.

Meanwhile, the new Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in-charge of Ogun and Lagos states, Abdulmajid Ali, says his first task in office will be ridding the waterways connecting Ogun state with other states, of criminals who are using it as hideout to terrorize people of the state.

Ali, who was the Ogun state police commissioner until his promotion as AIG, stated this while paying a farewell visit to Governor Ibikunle Amosun at the Governor’s Office in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

The new AIG who also used the visit to introduce Ahmed Iliyasu as the new Ogun State Police Commissioner, to the Governor, said he will meet with top police officers in both Lagos and Ogun states, to discuss the strategy on how to rid the waterways in the two states of criminals.

The new Police Commissioner promised to work with other security agencies to rid the state of hoodlums.

Governor Amosun, expressing concern over the attacks on people by militants from the waterways in the Arepo, Ibafo and Ogijo axis of the state, said his administration will not allow hoodlums to disrupt the rebuilding of the state.
