Saraki Asks Sponsors To Reintroduce Gender Equality Bill

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has asked the sponsors of the gender equality bill rejected by the senate, to re-introduce it.
Saraki in a statement by his special assistant on gender equality, Fatima Kakuri, said the rejected bill could still be amended and re-introduced.
The bill, seeking to give Nigerian women equal rights with men in marriage, education and jobs, also provide appropriate measures to be taken against gender discrimination, in political and public life as well as violence to women.
Saraki said the bill suffered a setback because some of the senators objected to some of its portions on the ground of religion and tradition
The senate president said he was aware that the bill’s main sponsor, Senator Biodun Olujinmi, intends to re-draft the bill to address some of the issues raised by some of the senators
