Sagamu local government team have won the 2016 Ogun state under-18 football championship after hard-fighting Abeokuta North local government local government side in a final match of the competition played at the Gateway International Stadium in Abeokuta.
Both sides had ended the thrilling final match goaless after final the regulation time, forcing the game into penalty shoot-out.
The Sagamu boys won 4-2, converting four kicks while the Abeokuta North side missed two of their kicks in the match watched by the Ogun state youth and sports commissioner, Afolabi Afuape, the state football association chairman, Ganiyu Majekodunmi and top officials of the sports council.
Jonathan Olateju from Ikenne local government whose side lost the third placed match to Odeda local government team, was adjudged the most valuable player of the tournament while Ado-Odo/Otta side emerged as the best behaved team.
The state football association’s chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi lauded Sir Kessington Adebutu for his contribution to the development of football in the state while urging other wealthy individuals and corporate organizations to give similar assistance to government
