Rowdy session, as Buhari presents 2019 budget bill before National Assembly

President Muhammadu Buhari has presented the 2019 N8.83 trillion appropriation bill, before the national assembly for consideration and approval.

Buhari told the joint session of the senate and House of Representatives, that recurrent expenditure is allocated four trillion and four million naira, while capital expenditure is given two trillion and three million naira.

Other components of the bill, according to Buhari, were debt service which got an allocation of N2.14 trillion, and statutory transfer of N492.36 billion.

He explained that the proposed budget is based on an oil benchmark price of $68 per barrel, the production of 2.3 million barrels of crude oil daily, as well as, an estimated 3.01 per cent growth in the gross domestic product and 9.98 per cent inflation rate.

Buhari also promised to forward to the national assembly a bill on the new national minimum wage.

The budget presentation was marred with booing of Buhari by opposition members and cheering of him by APC members, which forced him to request for a 40 minutes break.
