Robbers Attack Police Patrol, Injure Corporal

Armed robbers have attacked a police patrol at the Sagamu interchange in Ogun State

A police corporal was injured during the shootout with the robbers, at 1.30 am on Sunday morning

Two suspected members of the five member robbery gang, were however arrested by the police patrol

Spokesman of the State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who named the arrested suspects as Emmanuel Matthew and Solomon Aghofure, says the robbery gang had positioned themselves at the interchange, for attack on motorists and commuters

Oyeyemi says they opened gunfire on policemen on a routine patrol, leading to an exchange of gunfire, during which one of the robbers, sustained gunshot injuries, while others fled into the bush

Another members of the gang was arrested when the police combed the bush

The police spokesman says that the two arrested suspects during interrogation, revealed that they were five in number who attacked the police team

According to Oyeyemi, the suspects claimed that the three suspects on the run were ex convict, who had served jail term in Okitipupa in Ondo state and Sagamu in Ogun state

According to the suspects, the fleeing three ex convicts formed the robbery gang after they completed their prison terms
