Police Force Headquarters said it has recovered N111 million from 23 officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as part of the bribes they allegedly collected from the Rivers state government to rig the last December 10 re-run polls in the state.
The N111 million, according to a panel set up by the Inspector General of Police to investigate the polls, is part of N360 million bribe collected from the state government.
The panel chairman, deputy police commissioner, Damian Okoro, made this known while submitting the report of the investigative panel to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Okoro explained that some of the 23 INEC officials collected N15 million each, while three senior INEC officials got N20 million each.
The Inspector General of Police receiving the report, said it will be forwarded to the Attorney General of the Federation for advice, while the seized N111 million will be paid into the coffer of the federal government. Please subscribe to our newsletter
