The car that plunged into the Lagos lagoon on Saturday night has been recovered by emergency workers.
Found dead in the Ford Explorer sport utility van, near the University of Lagos waterfront, was a retired Air Vice-Marshal, and his driver.
The bodies were recovered by 2.30 am, by workers of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and local divers, who began the search, immediately after the vehicle plunged into the lagoon, a little after 10 pm on Friday.
General Manager of LASEMA, Adesina Tiamiyu confirmed the rescue of the vehicle and its occupants from the waters of the lagoon.
He said, “We received a distress call to our call centre around 11pm and we dispatched our rescue team to the scene. After some time, we recovered the bodies of two men in the car. Their families have been contacted.”
The late Air Vice Marshall was driving towards Lagos Island when his vehicle collided with another and crashed into the lagoon.
