Estimated billing of consumers by electricity distribution companies, is to attract sanctions, according to a bill just passed by the House of Representatives.
The bill, which has passed third reading, last week, is to be sent to the senate for harmonization before being transmitted to President Buhari for his consent.
According to the bill, one year jail term and N1 million fine, awaits any Distribution Company (DisCos), which sent estimated billing to electricity consumers.
DisCos, under the provisions of the bill, are to install pre-paid meters for consumers who applied for it within 30 days of application.
Any DisCos that fails to provide the pre-paid meters within the stipulated period and continue to bill consumers, will be barred from disconnecting power supply to consumers.
