Relief in Ekiti as marketers, Fayose reach a deal on reopening of filling stations

Fayose: Ekiti State APC Raps Aregbesola

Residents of Ekiti State have heaved a sigh of relief following the decision of petrol products marketers to end their three week boycott of the state and reopen filling stations

The marketers ended their strike, following a meeting brokered by Governor Rauf Aregbesola between Governor Ayodele Fayose and the marketers, oil workers and petrol tanker drivers at the Osun state government house in Osogbo.

An agreement signed by Governor Fayose and the marketers, supervised by Governor Aregbesola, include setting up of an ad-hoc committee to determine conditions and guidelines for establishing filling stations in the state.

Also, Ekiti State government agreed to reverse the revocation of the certificate-of-occupancy on land on which filling stations are constructed in the state, except those built on canals and waterways.

The state government also agreed to stop further demolition of filling stations, while the marketers will immediately re-open filling stations to begin sale of petrol.

According to a release by Fayose’s Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, a communique from the peace meeting read in part, “In the spirit of reconciliation, Ekiti State Government agreed to pleas for reversal of the revocation of some Certificates of Occupancy of landed properties on which filling stations are built, except the ones on waterways, canals and where there is no justification for such revocation.

“In that same spirit, the government agreed to stop further demolitions pending the outcome of the committee’s report and consequently, the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria and other related oil and gas unions hereby suspend the industrial action embarked upon by their members, with immediate effect.”
