Reconvening of National Assembly today in doubt

Drama as House of Reps rejects bill seeking special fund for South East development

National Assembly may not reconvene from recess today, as earlier scheduled.

Deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, last week had told newsmen that the house of representatives will reconvene today.

Also, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, after a meeting with the national assembly leadership, also gives indication of the lawmakers reconvening this week.

Some of the lawmakers, who spoke to Rockcity FM on the condition of anonymity, said they have not been notified of the resumption of the plenary.

The presidency had already warned that government activities may shut down, if the National Assembly fails to reconvene and consider the 2019 supplementary appropriation bill.

Items in the bill, include votes for the conduct of the 2019 polls, and security agencies.
