Protests In Ogun APC

Fresh crisis is brewing in Ogun State APC which has been split into three factions

One faction is loyal to Governor Dapo Abiodun, another to former Governor Olusegun Osoba and the third to former Governor Ibikunle Amosun

The fresh crisis follows the protests by leaders of Osoba faction in the Abeokuta South, who accused the state caretaker committee, of manipulating the local government executive committee list to favour the Abiodun faction

The faction leaders in Abeokuta South, in their petition dated January 11, to the State Caretaker Committee, alleges that the caretaker committee led by Chief Yemi Sanusi tampered with the list of members for the local government executive committee

Earlier, the new State Caretaker Committee had directed the party’s structures to set up caretaker committee, and the lists of the constituted committees were submitted for the harmonization of the three factions

The Osoba faction alleges that the APC chairman tampered with the list and upturned the collective decision of the majority of party leaders

Also in Ijebu North local government area, a faction of APC had protested the delay in inaugurating the party’s caretaker committee in the axis by the state caretaker committee

Some members of the party under the auspice of Dapo Abiodun Youth Forum, last week staged a protests at the party’s state secretariat in Abeokuta

The protesters stormed the APC State Secretariat in Abeokuta with placards bearing inscriptions such as: “release our caretaker Exco in Ijebu North”, “inaugurate Tunde Adebanjo as party chairman, Ijebu North”, “obey the party guideline” and “the leaders’ decision should be followed in Ijebu North.

They accused two of the state’s former deputy governors, Prince Segun Adesegun and Senator Gbenga Kaka, of causing disunity and crisis in the party.

Reacting to the protest from Ijebu North, spokesman of APC State Caretaker Committee, Ambassador Tunde Oladunjoye, says the committee is on top of the situation Oladunjoye told Rockcity FM correspondent, Tobi Ojeleye, that the caretaker committee is yet to decide on who will head the caretaker committee in the area
