Protests Greet Ogun APC Mode Of Primaries For July Council Poll

Protests have greeted the consensus mode of primaries adopted by Ogun State APC for picking its candidates for the state’s July 24 local government poll

The state APC at a stakeholders meeting presided over by Governor Dapo Abiodun, had opted for consensus mode of primaries in local government areas where there is agreement by aspirants on candidates for the poll

But where there is no such agreement, spokesman of the state Apc, Ambassador Tunde Oladunjoye, says that aspirants in such local government areas, will go for either direct or indirect primaries

A group of APC members protesting against the consensus mode, staged a protests in Abeokuta on Sunday,and converged at the Iwe Iroyin, alleging imposition of candidates by some party leaders in the Abeokuta South local government area

Their spokesman, Balogun Ololade, urges Governor Dapo Abiodun to intervene in order to save democracy

Earlier, Oladunjoye says the process of picking consensus candidates for the chairmanship and councillorship seats, had already begun in some of the local government areas

According to him, the list of consensus candidates where there are agreements by party’s members, will be out on WEDNESDAY

Oladunjoye says the state APC wants to the primaries to be free, and will not allow a repeat of what transpired during the party’s primaries for the 2019 polls in the state

Governor Dapo Abiodun, according to him, has been consulting party leaders to ensure that the biter experience of the 2019 APC primaries in the state will not be repeated during the forthcoming local government poll primaries
